صادق جلال العظم في صورة له في جامعة كاليفورنيا عام 2006
ولد صادق جلال العظم في دمشق سنة 1934، درس الفلسفة في الجامعة الأميركية، وتابع تعليمه في جامعة ييل الأمريكية. عمل العظم أستاذاً جامعياً في الولايات المتحدة، ودرّس في الجامعة الامريكية في بيروت وجامعة دمشق والجامعة الأردنية، وعمل رئيس تحرير مجلة الدراسات العربية التي تصدر في بيروت. عاد إلى دمشق ليدرّس في جامعتها، ثم انتقل إلى الخارج مجدداً ليعمل أستاذاً في جامعات في الولايات المتحدة وألمانيا.
كتب في الفلسفة والمجتمع والفكر العربي المعاصر إضافة إلى مساهمات في حقل الأدب، وترأس رابطة الكتاب السوريين التي تأسست عام 2012 في إثر انطلاقة الثورة السورية.
